We have recently contributed to a study showing how hippocampal sequences and cell assemblies develop in early postnatal development in mice. Read it here

Key findings:

The mid-fourth postnatal week is critical for hippocampal development

Allocentric representations stabilise by the mid-fourth postnatal week

Self-referential sequences emerge by the mid-fourth week, encoding run duration and then distance

Cell assemblies form before internal sequences

Cell assemblies are shaped by development, sensory cues and pyramidal cell sublayers
